Any company selling windshield repair equipment that doesn't use high levels of vacuum have a tool that has many factors going against you from the get go. Yes windshield damage can be done using a displacement method which all resin on glass systems are but factors such as moisture, high humidity, air pressure, and complexity of the break are very difficult to deal with. Wet vacuum injectors are totally obsolete because they allow too many factors to work against you in producing consistently good repairs. Time is another factor. In todays world especially with the economy the way it is, fast time in doing repairs along with high quality is what makes profits. Fact: There is approximately 21 miles of air over you at any given point in time. Gravity forces this column of air to press down depending on your altitude above sea level from 14 pounds to nine pounds per square inch. When you look at a break it is full of natural air pressure. The idea in windshield repair is to remove this air and replace it with the optically matched resin. If you remove the air first as well as the moisture you take away the resistance to filling the break. When air pressure is within the substrate or glass it is contained by glass and trying to force resin in or devloping a weak vacuum above the break is almost ridiculous. The resin is from 1000 times to 2000 times as dense as air and you're trying to force this resin into a pressurized air pocket? This is what takes all of the time. We all have this air pressure on our bodies all the time. The reason most people don't think of the air pressure is that they are used to it. Dumping the air pressure first is the key to quick and high quality windshield repair. The old method of displacement is a joke and unfortunatly the joke is on you if you are still using this old method. You could be making three to four times the money that you do right now!

In some areas of the country the humidity level is rather low and moisture isn't as much of a factor in performing windshield repair. In most areas of the country like the Mid West, East Coast, Southern Coast there is usually high humidity levels. The air always contains some level of humidity. In the wetter climates humidity levels are high, around 70% or more. At night when the temperature and dewpoint get within five degrees of each other, water vapor forms into liquid moisture. These facts can alert you that moisture levels in a break will be high on any given day by simply watching the weather and finding out if a dew is forcast. If it has occured, the breaks will have liquid moisture within them. Placing your repair unit on a wet break without the proper dry out procedure will result in an unsightly and weak repair. This is why placing tape over a break is a bad idea. Once tape is on the break water vapor will form into water and cannot get out. When the break is heated with a micro torch or a dry out device and you place the Annihilator over break and cause the vacuum levels to 28 inches the water will vaporize and go to the low pressure zone away from the damage. Then the injector is lowered and injected directly into the evacuated pocket.
We get a kick out of companies selling the old displacement method tools that say vacuum isn't important. They simply do not know what they are talking about. Trying to prove it can be done and actually making a good looking repair are pure luck at best.
